Robert F. Glover, 88, of North Madison St., a retired member of the Rome Fire Department, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility, peacefully with his family at his side. Bob was born May 27, 1918 in Utica, a son of Chester J. and Laura R. Farr Glover. He grew up in the Alder Creek area and graduated from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1937. In August 1938 he married Ethel Van Dreaser. They later divorced. In May 1944 Bob began his career with the Rome Fire Department, retiring as Lieutenant in 1978. In May 1976 he married Priscilla Hughes Garrison, and resided on West Bloomfield St. until her death in June 2000. Bob enjoyed spending time in Florida with his friends. He was a member of the Stanwix Menï¿(TM)s Club, Polish Home, many softball and bowling leagues, Adult Hockey Assoc., and played in the Rome Industrial Baseball League. He is survived by two daughters: Nancy and husband Butch Thurston of Garden Grove, CA, and Cynthia Carelli of Rome; one son: James Glover of Rome; a daughter by marriage: Mary V. Johnson and her partner Stephen Obrist of Rome; eleven grandchildren: Matthew, Alexis, Jamie, Trisha, Shane, P.J., Elise, Bob, A.J., Jim and Katie; and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Sansoucy, and by a granddaughter, Laura Jo Thurston. A Remembrance Gathering for family and friends, or as Bob would have called it "Howdy Doody Time", will be Sunday, March 4, from 1 to 4 pm at Mickeyï¿(TM)s Caf, Upper Floyd Ave., Rome. A private graveside service will be in the spring in Boonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Fire Fighters Benevolent Assoc., 158 Black River Blvd., Rome, NY 13440. Arrangements are in the care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
