Boonville- Robert E. Johnson, 61, a longtime resident of Williams Road, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, after a short illness, at University Hospital SUNY Health Science Center, Syracuse, NY.
Robert was born in Constableville, on April 26, 1962, a son of Frank and Sarah Yager Johnson. He grew up at his parent’s home on the Williams Road, near Hawkinsville, receiving his education at Adirondack Central School, Boonville and graduating with the Class of 1980. While in high school, Robert attended Howard G. Sackett BOCES Center, Glenfield, where he majored in Auto Mechanics.
He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private in 1980.
For many years he was a self-employed logger the throughout the North Country. Later for 22 years he was employed in grounds maintenance at Old Forge Camping Resort and concurrently he also operated R.J. Home & Lawn Care Service, in the Boonville area. Robert was a person who possessed a strong work ethic. He retired from Old Forge Campground in the spring of 2023, due to his illness and at the present time he was employed as a property manager for the Bill Corrigan family of Kayuta Lake.
He was a member of the Hawkinsville Methodist Church.
He is survived by one daughter and her fiancée; LeeAnn Barnhart and Michael Olney, Woodgate and his mother, Sarah Johnson, Boonville. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Johnson, in 1994. Also surviving are two sisters, Janet (Dave) Williams and Paula Genter, all of Boonville and his fiancées sons, who Robert had great affection for; Michael, II, Lucas and Tucker Olney and one nephew, Frederick.
In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours or services. Robert showed a great affection of animals of all kinds and especially his feline and canine friends. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. box 682, Lowville, NY 13367. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
