Port Leyden- Ricky Joseph Levesque, 62, of State Rt. 12, husband of Bernadette, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, in the comfort of his residence, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife, family and hospice, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Ricky was born in Lowville, on May 3, 1958, a son of Joseph M. and Margaret Wendt Levesque. He grew up in Brantingham and received his education at Greig Elementary School and General Martin School, Glenfield, before graduating from South Lewis Senior High School, Turin, with the Class of 1976. From August 10, 1976, until his honorable discharge on August 10, 1979, Mr. Levesque served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. While in the Marines, he was a Scuba Instructor and upon his discharge he held the rank of Corporal and received the Good Conduct Medal, Expert in Rifle, Pistol and Scuba Instructor Medal. From 1979, until 2005, when he retired due to illness, Ricky was employed in the maintenance department at Kraft Foods of Lowville. Ricky was a very talented and skilled welder and metal fabricator. He greatly enjoyed doing welding and metal projects for friends and people over a wide section of the North Country. On May 16, 1981, Ricky married the love of his life, Bernadette Bourgeois, at St. Martin's church, Port Leyden. This was a blessed union which was treasured for nearly 40 years. Ricky possessed a natural gift of expert mechanical talents and was a person who reveled at inventions which made projects at home easier. His mechanical abilities were well proven by the hand pump, railroad hand car, which he and his close friend, Michael Cannan built and assembled. Ricky and his family and Michael greatly enjoyed many hand car trips on the local railroad tracks. In addition to his mechanical abilities, Ricky loved camping, especially near rouses Point, NY, and Lake George, hunting and enjoying the out of doors. Ricky possessed a big heart and generous spirit which he demonstrated by helping many people. He especially enjoyed singing and watching his son's bands play. Mr. Levesque was a member of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, Charles J. Love Post 406, American Legion, Boonville and the Marine Corps League of Lowville. Ricky's greatest enjoyment in his life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to this loving wife of 39 years, Bernadette, he is survived by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Levesque, Lowville; his four children, Tony (Heather) Levesque, Lowville, Brandy (Jeff) Kirch, Croghan, Lacy Levesque and companion, Craig Dutch, Boonville and Michael (Jamie) Levesque, Plattsburg; grandchildren, Isaac Walseman, Ian, Hailee and Hudson Kirch, Dylan, Brennan and Alison Slawson, Penelope Levesque, Kyle Cooper and Deidre Levesque; one sister and brother in law, Cynthia (Edward) Bush, Brantingham; two brothers and one sister in law, Daniel (Sharon) Levesque, VA and Gary Levesque, Brantingham. Ricky's family wishes to express a note of sincere thanks and great appreciation to Lisa his home health aide, the Veteran's Homecare Staff and to Sheri, a caregiver from Lewis County Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Lawrence Marullo, on Monday, April 5, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, for close family and close friends. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, seating is limited, facial coverings must be worn and contact tracing will be observed. Interment with Military Rites will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, April 30, 2021, where Deacon James Chaufty will officiate and where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will confer Military Rites. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367, or to a charity of your choice. His funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
