Rev. Richard R. Thompson- who served as priest at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville from the fall of 1977 until the summer of 1991, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2013, in Florida. A native of the Syracuse area, Father Thompson was ordained a Catholic Priest in 1959. Before serving at St. Joseph's in Boonville, he was stationed at St. Anne' Catholic Church in Parish, New York; in 1991, Fr. Thompson was called by the Bishop of the Syracuse Diocese to serve at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fulton, New York. For many years Fr. Thompson's mother, Viola Anna Gerthoffer Thompson resided in Boonville, where she was his housekeeper. Fr. Thompson greatly enjoyed his tenure at St. Joseph's in Boonville. He embraced the entire community as his parish and was an active member of the Boonville Fire Company, and the Adirondack Community Chorus. His family included a brother, David Thompson, and a sister, Sister Serena Ann Thompson, of The Sisters of St. Joseph's in Latham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Sarasota, Fla, with interment to follow in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Memorial Park.
