Boonville - Richard F. Gillespie, 76, of Dorn Spur Road, husband of Wanda, passed away in the comfort of his home on December 12, 2020, while under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Richard was born in Middletown, NY, on October 15, 1944 a son of Fredrick and Margaret Watson Gillespie. He was raised in Montgomery, where he completed his education at Montgomery High School. On September 18, 1962 he entered the U.S. Navy where he served aboard various ships around the world. He was honorably discharged on September 17, 1968. Richard then returned to Montgomery where he began his career with the General Telephone Co. as a lineman. In January of 1985 Richard moved his family to Boonville where he continued working for the telephone company, retiring as an engineer for Frontier Communications, Boonville. Richard was well known throughout the North Country for his exceptional talents as a pitcher in many fast-pitch softball tournaments. He loved the game, and was also a New York Yankee baseball fan. An outdoorsman, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. On May 18, 2014 Richard was married to Wanda Fox, the couple attended many auctions and garage sales, and enjoyed their antiquing hobby together. Besides his wife Wanda, Richard is survived by his sons: Eric (Shelly), Boonville, David (Tracy), Louisa, VA, and Jason, Rome; he was predeceased by his son Andrew on November 24, 2017. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Grace, Lydia, Emily and Johannah, and brother Carl and Betsy Philips Gillespie, Montgomery. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Jannette and Louis Stollar. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. There are no calling hours.
