Richard F. Compo

November 17, 1944 — October 30, 2023

Port Leyden- Richard F. Compo, Sr, 78, of State Rt. 12, husband of Tina, passed away at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, on Monday, October 30, 2023, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife and family.


Richard was born in the Town of Lyonsdale, on November 17, 1944, a son of Benjamin and Clara Conklin Compo. He grew up in Lyonsdale and in Otter Lake, receiving his education in Old Forge and Remsen Central School. Later while serving his country in the US Army, Mr. Compo received his high school GED.


In 1964, Mr. Compo was honorably discharged from service in the Army, with the rank of PV First Class, having served in army field artillery supplies. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and a Marksman Badge.


After his army discharge, Richard was employed for Utica Cutlery, General Electric and Rome Cable, before many years of employment as a personnel manager at New York Air Brake Co., Watertown.


On July 27, 1991, Richard was united in marriage with Tina M. Levensailor, in Constableville. Thereafter the couple lived in Port Leyden and Boonville, before moving to Georgia, where they lived for several years, before returning to their present home near Port Leyden.


Richard greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Moose River Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed doing woodworking; making wooden canes and toys for his grandchildren.


In addition to his wife, Tina, Richard is survived by two daughters, Sheila and Roy Ratley, Floyd, Susan and Greg Stagg, Henderson; a daughter in law, Ileen and William Johnson, Jacksonville, FL and one brother, James Compo, Port Leyden. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Compo, Jr., in 2015. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Brandy Warren, Kara Compo, Tonya DePasquale, Skyler Compo and Richard Compo, III; great grandchildren, Isaiah Orndorff, Adaline Orndorff, Elijah Orndorff, Angel DePasquale, Audriella Warren, Jacob DePasquale and Aleyna DePasquale.


In addition to his parents, Benjamin and Clara Compo, Richard was pre-deceased by siblings; Georgianna “Jean” Waterman, Betty Houghton, Dorothy McEwen, Marjorie Post, Bernard Compo, Arthur Compo, Benjamin Compo, Rose Compo, Josephine Compo, Helen Roser and a sister in law, Jeanne Rundle


Also surviving are his brothers in law and sisters in law; Warren and Charlotte Levensailor, Jr. Michael and Cindy Levensailor, Marylou and Dale Hawk, Steven and Diana Leffingwell, Gerald and Sandra Leffingwell, Timothy Levensailor, Thomas Levensailor, Jody Levensailor and Penny and Joseph LoCash.


In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
