Constableville- Raymond L. Jedrich, 84, longtime resident of James St., husband of the late Eva, and former co-owner of the popular Alpine Bar and Restaurant, passed away while surrounded by the loving care of his children at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Raymond was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on January 27, 1939, a son of Lawrence S. and Genevieve M. Barsczewski Jedrich. As a child he moved with his family to the Tug Hill region of New York, and settled on Gomer Hill, near Constableville. He graduated from General Martin High School, Glenfield, NY, with the Class of 1957. Following high school, Raymond moved with his family to Constableville, where he converted an old horse barn into a restaurant, “The Alpine”. After opening the Alpine in 1959, Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army. After serving for two years and being honorably discharged, he returned to operate the Alpine.
On June 24, 1967, Raymond was united in marriage with the love of his life, Eva Seelman, at St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden. Thereafter, the couple lived on James St. Constableville and co-owned and operated the Alpine. In 1974 they expanded to accommodate dinners, large parties and banquets. Under their hard work it became a well-known and popular restaurant in central and northern New York state, serving pizza and dinners, hosting wedding receptions, banquets and parties for many years. Mrs. Jedrich, passed away on April 2, 2007 and the restaurant was sold in 2014.
Raymond was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Constableville and a longtime active member of the Constableville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a past Town of West Turin Supervisor.
He is survived by a son and daughter in law, Christopher J.B. (Priscilla) Jedrich, Victor, NY; daughter and son in law, Jennifer L. Jedrich-Kerfien (Randy), Boonville; grandchildren, Ashley Jedrich, William Jones Jr. (step grandson), Jayden and Ty Kerfien; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman (Dorothea) Jedrich, Turin; a sister and brother in law, DeLourdes (Charles) Hollis, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 10:00 – 12 Noon and from 2-5 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., Boonville. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Constableville, with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville, this spring at a date and time to be announced.
