Raymond D. Vollmar

Raymond D. Vollmar, 67, of Long Falls Towers, State St., a native and former resident of Port Leyden, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after a long illness. He was born on February 28, 1940, a son of Albert J. and Martha O'Brien Vollmar. He attended Port Leyden School, and during his youth he helped his father, Albert, widely known as the "Mayor of Denley," operate the Denley Power Plant located on Black River. On March 15, 1960, Raymond was married to Barbara A. Noyes at the Carthage Methodist Church. For many years they lived on Western Ave., and on Washington St. in Carthage. He was first employed at Burrows Paper Mill, Lyonsdale, and then for many years, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Village of West Carthage. Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Black River. He was elected by the residents of Long Falls Towers, to be Tenant Representative, a position that he had held for the past two years. During his tenure he was instrumental in establishing a beauty shop in the towers building to serve the residents, and he was Bingo Manager for the building. Raymond also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in the Boonville area and at the Fiddlersï¿(TM) Hall of Fame, Osceola. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Raymond D. Vollmar, Jr., Carthage, three daughters; Debra L. Vollmar, Minden, LA., Rose M. Hurst, Watertown, Diana L. Sanderson, and husband, Clarence, Carthage, nine grandchildren, one brother, Richard Vollmar, Seattle W A., one sister, Joyce Kendall, and husband, Larry, Booneville, MI., a sister in law, Peg Vollmar, Hawkinsville, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Frederick in 2006, and by a brother who died as an infant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday at 11 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church will officiate. There are no calling hours. Spring interment will be in Port Leyden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, or to The American Diabetes Association.
