Phyllis M. Hiscox

Otter Lake - Phyllis M. Hiscox, 54, of State Route 28, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born in New Hartford on January 15, 1954, to Guy E. and Patricia Penree Horton. In 1968 she moved to Otter Lake with her family, and graduated from Town of Webb High School, Old Forge, with the Class of 1972. She was employed by Sharon Graham in the operation of the Graham Upholstery Shop of Old Forge, before her employment for many years as a cashier at Adirondack Grocery Store in Otter Lake. On February 17, 1990, Phyllis was united in marriage with Michael F. Hiscox at St. Bartholomew's Church, Old Forge. Mr. Hiscox died on August 23, 2004. Mrs. Hiscox was a member, historian and religious education teacher at St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake, a founding member of the Otter Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and treasurer of the Auxiliary from 1969 until the present time. Phyllis will be fondly remembered for her talent at oil and watercolor painting, along with many other kinds of arts and crafts. For many years Phyllis and her mother were partners in the operation of Pat's Ceramic Shop of Otter Lake. Phyllis also taught the art of making ceramics. She enjoyed collecting models of classic cars and different kinds of snow globes. She also enjoyed many kinds of music. She is survived by her mother, Patricia H. Horton, Otter Lake; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Susan and Thomas Abrial, Linda and Raymond Plunkett, Heidi and Daniel Abrial, and Nancy L. Horton, all of Otter Lake; a nephew, Jeffrey Abrial; two nieces, Heather Plunkett, and Sarah and her husband Ryan Abrial; two grandnieces, Lauren and Mickayla Abrial; one uncle, Jack Penree, Boonville; several cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her father, Guy, on February 26, 2006. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2008, at St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake. Interment will be in the spring in White Lake Cemetery, Woodgate. Calling hours are Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otter Lake Fire Department or to the Old Forge Fire Department Ambulance Fund.
