Forestport - We celebrate the life of Peter Matthews born in White Plains, NY, on November 6, 1947. He was the eldest son of Richard J. and Theresa Basile Matthews. He grew up in Scarsdale, NY and Colonia, NJ where he received his high school education at the Perth Amboy Vocational School. Anyone who knew Pete knew he was always the "life of the party". Everyone who was blessed by his presence felt his generous and tremendous spirit that gave him or her comfort when they were weary, humor when they needed to smile, and love when they needed warmth. Life was not short of challenges but still he has managed to draw people to him with his bubbly personality, contagious smile, and a laughter that will fill your heart. If Pete loved you, there is no question that you knew it and felt it. His genuine and pure heart will continue on through all that he loved. Whatever Pete did, he did fully and unwaveringly. His love and courage prompted him to serve his country in the Army in the Vietnam War. Soon after, Pete lived a productive civilian life, met the love of his life, and was employed for 25 plus years at United Parcel Service (UPS) in Edison, NJ. Later he relocated to Forestport, NY where he has resided since with friends who became family. Pete enjoyed working in the garage, building his camaro, fishing, spending time on the lake, playing with Jackson and making memories with his beloved friends and family. Peter R.
