Boonville- Peter D. Parrish, 83, State Rt. 46, husband of Naomi, passed away after a long illness, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his residence, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife and family. Peter was born in Port Leyden, on January 22, 1935, a son of Dwayne and Julia Johnston Parrish. He grew up on Quarry St. in the village of Port Leyden and graduated from Port Leyden Central School. Thereafter, Mr. Parrish served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he attended Utica College of Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor degree; later returning to college and earning a Master degree. Mr. Parrishs true calling in life was his career and vocation as a Junior and Senior High level English teacher. For many years he taught various English courses at Adirondack School System, Boonville. Through his kind, patient and cheerful ways as a teacher and person, he was instrumental in encouraging many students to persevere and excel in their junior and senior high school years. After his retirement from teaching, in 1992, Peter was employed for several years as foreman of the laundry department, first at Broadacers Skilled Nursing Facility, Deerfield and later at St. Lukes Home, New Hartford. On August 3, 1992, Peter was united in marriage with Naomi Willson, at the Boonville United Methodist Church. Mr. Parrish was a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406 and Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., both of Boonville. In addition to spending time with his family and grandchildren; Peter greatly enjoyed participating in ham radio, college basketball; he was an avid SU Fan; he also enjoyed photography, all sorts of antique cars, nature and the out of doors. In addition to his wife, Naomi, Peter is survived by three sons, David Parrish, Pheonix, AZ, Stephen Parrish, Alabama, Jeramie Golden and his fiance, Ashley Nestle, Barneveld; two daughters, Barbie Parrish, Port Leyden and Brandy Golden and T.J. Weiler, Marcellus, NY; twenty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by a sister, JoAnne Parrish, a brother, John Parrish and a grandson, Brayden Lott. His Funeral will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Calling hours are Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and The Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will meet for services at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday.
