Percy A. Sullivan

September 1, 1937 — December 21, 2013

Port Leyden- Percy A. Sullivan, 76, a long time resident of South Elm St. and husband of Irma, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Lewis Co. General Hospital, Lowville, after a long illness. He was born in Lowville, on September 1, 1937, a son of William E. and Agnes Hoffert Sullivan. Percy grew up in Talcottville, where he attended the Town of Leyden Rural School, before completing his education at Boonville High School. On June 29, 1957, Percy was united in marriage with Irma McIntyre, at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. After that the couple lived on Ann St. Boonville, before moving to Port Leyden. Mr. Sullivan was first employed at the Lowville Tree Nursery, after that he was employed at Boonville Division of Ethan Allen Furniture Co. From 1959 until 1969, when he was injured and disabled in a work related accident, Percy was employed at Georgia Pacific Paper Co. Lyons Falls. After that he was self employed operating Sullivan's Small Engine Repair Service at his residence in Port Leyden. Percy enjoyed working in his repair shop; he was well known for being an inventor, "like Mcgiver," and often constructed his own parts for use in small engine repairs. He enjoyed using his creativity with new ideas for landscaping his property, and he was well known and will be fondly remembered for the Christmas decorations that he displayed both inside, and on the lawn of their residence. Mr. Sullivan loved people; he found great joy in waving to everyone from his deck as they went by, attending garden tractor pulling events, and music from the 1970's. He greatly enjoyed welcoming everyone into their home with open arms. The Sullivan residence was well known as the "Community home to go to." He will be truly missed by his family and his community. He was a member of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, and with his brothers, he had been a member of Boonville Council Knights of Columbus # 2195. Most of all, Percy loved his wife, Irma, his family, and he enjoyed time spent with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children: Rebecca (Sullivan) Bush, Lyons Falls, Jeanie (Cory) Zeigler, Boonville, Steven (Dawn) Sullivan, Remsen, Margaret (Sullivan) Krokowski, Port Leyden, Tracy (John) Hastwell, III, Boonville, Jeffrey Sullivan, Port Leyden, Charles (Starr) Sullivan, Constableville, Janet (Matthew) Evans, Boonville; thirty one grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; at the present time, Percy was joyfully anticipating the birth of another great grandchild. Also surviving is one brother, Ervin J. Sullivan, and by one sister, Mary (Sullivan) Thayer, both of Boonville. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Mark R. Krokowski, and by grandchildren, Bradley Irving Zeigler and Adrianna Rochelle Evans and brothers, Robert W. Edward F. Patrick J. and Loren H. The Sullivan family wishes to express their sincere, heartfelt appreciation to the Port Leyden, Turin and Lyons Falls Fire Department Ambulance personal for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Percy, also to the family, friends and Port Leyden community, and the Doctors and nursing staff of the ICU and East Wing at Lewis County General Hospital. In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Memorial contributions may be made to Port Leyden Fire Department Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
