Port Leyden - Pearl T. Hutchins, a long-time resident of East Main Street, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville after a brief illness. A native of Carr Creek, KY, Pearl was the daughter of James and Pauline Combs Tolliver. After graduating from high school she married Gilbert Hutchins in Louisville, KY. Several years ago the couple moved to the Lyons Falls/Port Leyden area where Mr. Hutchins was employed as a woodsman. He died on June 6, 1969. Mrs. Hutchins was employed as a bartender at Hendel in Lyons Falls prior to becoming proprietress of the Central Hotel on East Main Street in Port Leyden, a position she held for several years. She was also employed as a health care provider in the Port Leyden area, and had enjoyed working at the Sale Barn Second Hand Shop, also in Port Leyden. Pearl enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an out- going person who loved to visit with people. She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, William of Boonville, Russell and Laura of Greig, Rendell W. and Janice of Boonville, and Rodney of Port Leyden; two daughters, Katrina Hutchins and Regina Einbeck, both of Port Leyden; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Merwin (Marty) Hutchins, many years ago. Her funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where Pastor Joan Ripp will officiate. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Eastern Division, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13507-0007.
