Constableville- Paul J. Panik, Sr., 73, of John St., husband of Christine, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, while traveling to visit his nephew and his wife, Ben and Jenny Desmond, in Annapolis, MD. Paul was born in Little Falls, on October 29, 1939, a son of Paul and Jennie Zorce Panik. He grew up in Little Falls where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1957. In September, 1957, Mr. Panik began his service to his country entering the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served state side as a Radio Relay Operator. He was honorably discharged in September, 1960, thereafter serving in the Marine Corps Reserves until September, 1963. After serving his country, Paul returned to Little Falls, later moving to the Utica area where he lived for many years. He attended Utica College and for 35 years he was employed at General Electric Co. of Utica, as a Metrologist in the manufacture of aero space products, retiring in 1994. He was married to Barbara Perri; later the couple was divorced. In July, 2001, Mr. Panik moved to Constableville; on September 15, 2001, Paul was married to Christine Desmond at the Mohawk Country Club of Niskayuna, NY. He was a member of Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, Detachment #961, Boonville, the White Otter Fish and Game Club, Woodgate and the Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders, snowmobile club. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing in his early years, and golfing and snowmobiling in more recent times. In addition to his wife, Christine, Paul is survived by his beloved children: a daughter, Suzanne (Robin) Hagadorn, Fort Johnson; and one son, Paul J. Panik, Jr. Herkimer. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph. Also surviving are three cherished nephews: Matthew (Alejandra) Desmond, Quantico, VA, Jeffrey (Dolores) Desmond, Kaneohe, HI, and Benjamin (Jennifer) Desmond, Annapolis, MD, and his cherished great niece, Sofia, and grand nephews Michael, Andrew and Henry. A visitation will be on Friday, October 18, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where members of the Tun Tavern Marine Corps Det. # 961, the Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion and the Harland J. Hennessey Post #5538 V.F.W. will conduct services at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Saturday, October 19, at 1:30 P.M. at the Veteran's Memorial in Boonville Cemetery, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien will officiate and where members of the above military posts will render Military Rites. Paul's ashes will be laid to rest at a later date in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
