Patricia Ann Gilmer

March 18, 1945 — September 5, 2022

Patricia Ann (Ackman) Gilmer, 77, of Shenandoah, TX passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. For many years, Patricia and her late husband, Donald, lived on Point Rock Road, in the vicinity of the hamlet of Point Rock.


Patricia was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 18, 1945. She was the daughter of James Ackman and Marzee (Pratt) Ackman and grew up in the Cincinnati area.


On November 27, 1965, she married the love of her life, Donald William Gilmer. He was in the USAF and they spent many years living and travelling all over the world before retiring in upstate NY. Patricia was a homemaker until being employed at Adirondack Central School where she worked as an aide in the Speech Therapy department for 19 years. Mr. Gilmer passed away on May 19, 1999; and in 2011, she moved to Texas to be near her daughter and watch her youngest grandchildren grow up.


While living in England, she was actively involved in Girl Scouts as a leader and leader trainer. After moving to NY, she was an active member and Youth Group leader at the Point Rock United Methodist Church. She loved to travel and always had an adventurous spirit. Her hobbies included being involved with and supporting her grandchildren any way she could. She never wanted to miss a school event, game, or production. In her retirement in TX she was very involved in her senior community and enjoying life with some amazing friends. Her favorite thing to do was go out to eat and loved being by the lake.


Patricia is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Curtiss, NY and Christy (Sean) Carney, The Woodlands, TX. She has six grandchildren who she loved dearly. Russell Curtiss, West Leyden, NY; Matthew Curtiss, Boonville, NY; and William Curtiss, NY. Jack Carney, Samuel Carney and Grace Carney, The Woodlands, TX. She had three great grandchildren and another one expected soon. She was very close with her three sisters who her family lovingly referred to as “The Golden Girls”. Georgia Hoerst, Sharonville, OH; Volina Berry, Seattle, Washington; and Barbara McConnell, DeSoto, KS. She was also always supported and loved by her husband’s siblings and families in Iowa.


Calling hours are Sunday, September 11, 2022 1-4 pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St Boonville, NY. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, September 12, at 10:00 am Point Rock United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in Point Rock Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Point Rock United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 142, Lee Center, New York 13363.
