Orvis M. Beckwith

Rome- Orvis M. (Sykes) Beckwith, 81, passed away, after a brief illness, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica, where she was surrounded by her loving family. Orvis was born in Northwestern, on May 30, 1937, a daughter of Lewis and Mary Moore Sykes. She grew up on Beckwith Road, North Western and received her education at Holland Patent Central School. Later she operated her own business, Beckys Knittery, in the Town of Lee. After moving to Tucson, AZ, she received her Real Estate License and was employed as a property manager for several years, in Tucson. In 1988, Orvis returned to the area where she had since lived. She greatly enjoyed making crafts and attending area craft fairs. On December 6, 1957, Orvis married Earl Beckwith in Westernville, NY. This was a blessed union of 44 years, when Earl passed away in 2001. Orvis was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit to others. She greatly enjoyed cooking and a tradition of having a meal on the table whenever company arrived. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Dalorah (Bernard) Lenaghen, Westernville; a sister, Kathy (Cliff) Foster, Hubbardsville, a sister in law, Betty Beckwith, Poulsbo, WA; 14 grandchildren, which she cherished, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a special niece, Billie Jo Liyanage, Prior Lake, MN. In addition to her husband, Orvis was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah L. Beckwith, in 2016 by a son, Daryl C. Beckwith, in 2017; three sisters, Orris LaPlante, Charlotte Swancott and Jennie Marsden and a brother, Joseph Sykes. Her family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, I.C.U. and also to Palliative Care for their wonderful care and compassion rendered to Orvis and also including a note of appreciation to Pastor Jodi Haier, of Steuben United Methodist Church. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be in Lee Valley Cemetery at the convenience of her family. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St, Boonville.
