Turin - Orrin W. Hill, 81, longtime resident of Lyman St., passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Luke's Home, New Hartford, following a brief illness. Orrin was born on September 26, 1934 in Lowville, a son of Miles and Mary Reed Hill. He spent his younger years in Turin and Rome, where he graduated from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1952. Following graduation he worked as an auto mechanic for area car dealerships. On September 10, 1955 Mr. Hill was united in marriage with Helen Bowers at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rome. Orrin was drafted into the US Army in March 1957 serving until 1959. While stationed in Alaska, Orrin was a member of the Army Rifle Team. The couple moved to their current home on Lyman St. in 1960, where they raised their family and have since lived. Orrin was recalled into active duty in 1961 serving until his honorable discharge in August 1962. For several years Orrin was employed for the Hall Ski Lift Co., Watertown, retiring as shop supervisor in 1995. Mrs. Hill passed away on November 6, 2005. Orrin was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the time he spent hunting and fishing, especially around his log cabin camp on Tug Hill. For a time he served as secretary of the Fairchild Hunting Club, Turin. Orrin was proud of his lifetime membership in the NRA. He is survived by his daughters: Diane (Robert) Mooney, Poland, and Linda (George) Fox, Boonville; granddaughter Patricia (David) Grover, Sherrill, and great-grandchildren Brycen and Amelia Grover who he greatly adored; his brothers Robert (Gail) Hill, Clinton, Thomas (Karen) Hill, Peterboro, his brothers and sisters-in-law: Barbara Hill, George (Charlotte) Bowers, all of Rome, and M. Jeanette Ferraro, Syracuse, several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Helen, Orrin was predeceased by his brother Parmer, and special cousins Keith and Jeanne Gleasman. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 1, at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment with military honors will be held in Turin Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a local charity of your choice.
