Olivia (Britton) Shoemaker, 76, a former resident of Echo Lake Road, Boonville, passed away in the loving arms of her husband of 49 years, Charles B. Shoemaker, during the afternoon of April 15th, 2021. She was surrounded by her family and supported by the caring staff of VITAS Hospice in Rockledge, Florida. Olivia has battled Alzheimer's for the last seven years and passed away due to complications of the disease. Olivia was born in Rome, NY on September 29th, 1944 to Louis C. Britton and Sigrid (Hughes) Britton. She grew up in Constableville, NY, and was raised in the original Sunset Nursing Home. She attended both Syracuse University and Geneseo in the pursuit of a degree in Education. Olivia spent many years in Rochester before meeting and marrying her soul mate, Chuck, on October 23, 1971. They returned to Boonville to operate Shoemakers Liquor Store, Dry Cleaners and Laundromat from 1976-2007. During this time they also operated Central Adirondack Textiles in Boonville. Olivia was active in the Oneida County Democratic party for many years, even running for State Assembly. She also served under Governor Mario Cuomo on the Hudson River/Black River Regulating District. Olivia was also active in the Boonville 4-H equestrian program, was an expert downhill skier, water skier, and western horse rider later in life. In 2007, Chuck, Olivia, and their beloved horses moved to McAlpin, FL where they built their dream ranch. They loved their years riding horses and 4-wheelers until, in 2014, they relocated to Merritt Island, FL. Olivia was a life-time humanitarian and in 2014 received the highest award of excellence from the Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program for child advocate of the year. Olivia and Chuck both enjoyed retirement fully until her diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. They participated voluntarily for research aimed at curing the disease for the first few years. She had many passions and unique, loving, friendships throughout her life. Above all, Olivia cherished her family. In addition to her husband Chuck, Olivia is survived by her brother, Jerome Britton (Terri), her favorite aunt, Thelma Lyle, and by her five children, Kimberly L. Buyers, David G. Shoemaker (Teresa), Charles J. Shoemaker, Brian D. Shoemaker (Jennifer) and Chad L. Shoemaker (May). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shelby G. Buyers, Matthew J. Buyers, Louis N. Shoemaker (Kayla) - and great-grandson Nixon, David G. Shoemaker - "DJ", Cheyenne R. Shoemaker, Emma M. Shoemaker, Haven A. Shoemaker, Quinn E. Shoemaker, and Livi L. Shoemaker. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends in both New York and Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 12 Noon on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville, with a celebration of her life to follow.
