Boonville- Norma (DeVoe) Larrivey, 77, a long time resident of Post St., widow of Edward J. passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since 2009. She was born in Talcottville, on June 19, 1934, a daughter of Fred L. and Evelyn Leichty DeVoe. Norma grew up in Talcottville, and Boonville, where she graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1952. Thereafter she attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, Utica, graduating with the Class of 1955, earning her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Mrs. Larrivey was a very devoted Registered Nurse. Her heart belonged to nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Carl Szot, Boonville, and Dr. Mechanic, of Rome, in his ophthalmic practice and as a Psychiatric Nurse at Marcy State Hospital. For many years she was employed as a Charge Nurse in geriatric nursing at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, retiring after her last employment at the Gosling Home for United Cerebral Palsy, Boonville. She had also been employed as a private duty nurse in the Boonville area. Through the years Norma encouraged many to pursue a nursing career. On June 30, 1956, Norma was married to Edward J. Larrivey at the Boonville Methodist Church. Mr. Larrivey a former Traffic Manager at Ethan Allen Furniture Co. Boonville, died on October 8, 2008. Norma was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church, and the Boonville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She greatly enjoyed sewing and playing the accordion. Norma was a devoted mother who loved her family. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jeff Crolius, Kim and Stan Laskowski, all of Boonville, Katrina and John Hummel, Keyser West Virginia; one son, Kyle Larrivey, Boonville. She was predeceased by a son, Keith, on July 20, 2006. Also surviving are three grandsons, Corby and Stacy Czajka, Jimmy Brown, Michael Brown, one great grandson, Brandan and one great granddaughter, Riley, and also Haley and Landan; one brother, Robert DeVoe, Homer, NY; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charles and Annette Hammond, Jane Sanford and John Sugar, all Boonville. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Irene DeVoe, and a sister-in-law, Rosie DeVoe. Also surviving are dear friends, Jerome and Mary Arrigo. Norma's family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, for the kind and loving care rendered to her. Her Funeral Services will be Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the services. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a nursing scholarship established in memory of Norma at Adirondack Central School.
