Steuben - Nancy Mae (Salmon) Pelton, 65, of South Hill Road, passed away on at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, August 15, 2008. Nancy was born in Utica, on January 13, 1943, a daughter of the late Maynard E. and Myrtle Pugh Salmon. Except for a short time when she lived in Rome, her entire life was spent in the town of Steuben, growing up on her parent's dairy farm on South Hill Road. She graduated from Holland Patent High School with the Class of 1962. For thirty-five years Nancy was the main office secretary at Holland Patent High School, retiring in 2005. She took a great interest in her school employment career, having much interaction with facility, staff and students. She loved to attend school functions. She was a member of the Steuben United Methodist Church and the Westernville Memorial American Legion Post # 1846 Ladies Aux., where she had served as Secretary-Treasurer. She was also a member of the Pinochle Club. Nancy is survived by two daughters and sons- in-law, Karen and David Bonney, Forestport, and Anne and Rick Edwards, Steuben. She greatly loved and cherished her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews; Nancy was the perfect "doting grandmother" of April and husband Eric Tyler, Liverpool, Adam and wife, Laura Wilson, Steuben, Katie Mae, Jared and Molly Bonney, Tracy Shepherd, and great- grandchildren Brandon and Kendell Wilson. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law; her twin sister, Shirley Last, Steuben, and Beverly and Robert Johnson, Remsen; and one brother and sister-in-law, James and Carol Salmon, Rome. Nancy was predeceased by her mother, Myrtle, in 1994, and by her father, Maynard, in 2002, and by her brother-in- law, Roger Last, in 2007. Her family wishes to express their heart felt thanks and appreciation to "Nancy # 2," to Dorothy, and to Holland Patent Pharmacy for their compassionate care, information and willing assistance; Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., to Dr. DeTraglia, and to all others who have assisted Nancy and her family during the duration of her illness. Her Funeral Service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Steuben Corners Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home, where members of Westernville American Legion Post # 1846 Ladies Auxiliary will meet in a group for a service at 7:00 P.M.
