Nancy E. Pratt

May 27, 1939 — January 6, 2020

Turin- It is with great sadness that Nancy E. Podgers Smith Pratt, passed away on January 6, 2020. Nancy was born May 27, 1939, in Rochester, NY, to her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Gaylord Podgers. She grew up in Irondequoit, NY, where she graduated with the class of 1957. Nancy met her husband, James W. Smith and they were married on October 31, 1959. Jim and Nancy had two children; Thomas J. Smith (Christina) and their children, Tyler, Tara and C.J.; Suzette L. Kerley and her children, Joshua and Jenna. They found their passion in sailing at the Rochester Yacht Club and skiing at Snow Ridge Ski Area, leading to an eventful life. Jim and Nancy owned a construction company in Hilton, NY, and raised their children there. In 1977, an opportunity provided a move to Lewis County, in managing the Snow Ridge Ski Area, in Turin, for Dr. L.M. and Rosalie Harris. So they packed up and moved from Rochester to Turin, NY. They managed Snow Ridge until Jim's passing on January 10, 1983. Nancy went on to employment at Georgia Pacific/Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper, Lyons Falls, NY and then on to Bartell Machinery in Rome, NY. At work she was lucky to find the second love of her life, Donald Pratt of Rome, NY. They were married on December 2, 1995. Don and his two children, Derek and Jessica were now a part of the Smith/Pratt family. Nancy continued her love of skiing with Don and traveled out West to ski many times. Together they found the love of the Thousand Islands and had a place in Clayton, where they spent weekends on their boat, cruising the islands. They resided in a home at the base of Snow Ridge Ski Area, where she lived until her passing. Nancy was full of life. She loved her children, grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and life. Word is; she was occasionally seen at the moe.down from time to time! Living life to its fullest! A celebration to remember Nancy will be in the spring at a place and time convenient for friends and family. For an on-line message of sympathy, please go to www.trainorfuneralhome.com
