Myrton C. Farr, Jr.

d. December 3, 2021

Our brother and son, Myrton C Farr, Jr, died unexpectedly at his home in Rome, NY on Friday, Dec 3rd 2021. He had tested positive for Covid 19 just a day earlier, and the virus quickly attacked his lungs with many blood clots. He was 62 years old. Born in 1959, Mick (as we knew him) grew up in Frog Holler, (Town of Lyonsdale), and graduated from South Lewis in '77, and SUNY Oswego in '82, with a degree in English. He loved the poetry of Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath, and was an avid reader, with books always on his Christmas lists. Mick worked as a teacher for a year at a high school near Rochester, before moving to Houston. While there, he began to return to the Catholic faith. The Church was the greatest love of his life. He first went to seminary, but changed his mind about the priesthood, and instead lived at two different monasteries here in the States. Neither adhered strongly enough to the tenets of Catholicism for his personal feelings at the time, so he moved to Europe and joined a monastery in Switzerland, and stayed there for several years, serving as the order's cook, which made him dislike cooking for himself later in his life! Moving back to Houston, and then on to Chicago, he worked at several bookstores and a bank for most of the 90s, jobs that he liked very much. But he grew restless and decided to try something completely different: he ran away and joined the circus! This turned out to be his favorite job of them all. Mick stayed with Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey for nearly 20 years, until they closed in 2017. He started as a roustabout, and worked many positions. During this time, he fell in love with one of the performers. They wanted to marry, but her mother didn't approve of him. For the last 3 years he was the ring foreman, and was responsible for the acts starting on time. He loved the traveling, seeing different cities, going to coffee shops and finding their churches; doing as much of this on foot as he could. Mick preferred the slower pace of walking, and really seeing things. His biggest wish was to return to that routine. He had been to most of the 48 contiguous states, and was looking forward to seeing the rest before he settled down. It was really good having him back here, but he wasn't happy in New York; he wanted an easier winter. Mick was the firstborn in our family, and is survived by our mother Mary, all four of his siblings: Steve, Bill, Donna (Pete Weber) and Becky. He has a niece, Corrissa; a nephew, Darren and his wife Amanda, and their two kids Wyatt and Eagwene. All four maternal aunts and uncles are also still alive, plus one paternal aunt-by-marriage, with many cousins from both sides of the family. Our dad died in late 2008, and Donna's son Christopher in early 2011. There will be no calling hours or public funeral. Mick dearly loved the Catholic Church, and was a regular attendee at a Latin Mass at either Verona, Oswego, Potsdam or Syracuse. If you want to make any remembrances, please have a Mass said in his name, or donate to a Catholic charity of your choice. You will be missed to the last days of our lives. Rest peacefully, in heaven, Mick. We love you. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
