Myrton C. Farr

Port Leyden - Myrton C. Farr, Sr., 79, of River Road, passed away on Tuesday December 30, 2008, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, after a brief illness. A native of Penny Settlement, he was born on April 6, 1929, to Raymond and Viola Pearsons Farr. He received his education at the Penny Settlement Rural School, and was employed in timber harvesting with his father. Mr. Farr served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge at the rank of Private. He was employed for a short time at Gould Paper Company in Lyons Falls, then at Sweeney Lumber Company, where he worked as a delivery man until his retirement in 1983. On October 30, 1958, he was married to Mary Nye at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. The couple were later divorced. He greatly enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially fishing on the Black and Moose Rivers. Mr. Farr is survived by three sons, Myrton C., Jr., Palmetto, FL, Stephen A., Bay St. Louis, MS, and William J., Troy, NY; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna M. and Pete Weber, and Rebecca A. Farr, all of Lyons Falls; three grandchildren, Darren, Christopher, and Corrissa; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene R. and Elizabeth Farr, Lyons Falls; a sister, Lois McNaughton, Hudson Falls, NY; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Kohl and Pearl Wood. His funeral will be Friday at 7:00 p.m.at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Matt Weber will officiate. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Myrton greatly loved cats and dogs as pets, and contributions in his memory may be made to Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13502 or to the American Cancer Society Memorial Processing Center, 66735 Lyons Street, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057-0007.
