Constableville- Myles H. Higby, 77, of State Rt. 26, Mohawk Hill, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his residence, while surrounded by his wife, Roxie, family and friends. Myles was born in Constableville, on October 9, 1943, the son of Myles F. and Marion C. (Leffingwell) Higby, on the Higby family homestead, on the Crofoot Hill Road. Myles was one of twelve children. He was a graduate of Constableville High School, with the class of 1961. Myles married Roxie Anne Schindler, on January 5, 1963, at St. Mary's Church, Constableville, NY. The couple operated a dairy farm on Mohawk Hill for many years. Myles was also employed as a carpenter and was a member of Carpenter's Local Union, Utica and Syracuse, NY. For several years Myles and Roxie operated Mohawk Hill Redemption Center, retiring in 2008. Although never becoming a member of the Constableville Volunteer Fire Co. where he volunteered countless hours helping at their many fundraisers. He also volunteered with the local Cub Scout pack and the Lewis County 4-H. Myles enjoyed camping, garden tractor pulls with his grandchildren with tractors that he custom built. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him great joy. He was always there to help his family, whatever the need might have been. Myles will be fondly remembered for his faith in God, courage, perseverance through many trials, tremendous work ethic, and ability to build or fix anything. His wonderful smile, huge heart and generous spirit which was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, were attributes of Myles which will be fondly remembered and treasured. In addition to Roxie, his loving wife of 58 years, Myles is survived by his children; Lorrie (Doug) Hutchins, Constableville, Myles (Kim Roggie) Higby, Rome, Lillian (Steve) Metott, Constablevivlle, Louise (Robin) Reese, Port Leyden, Michael (Carrie) Higby, Constableville. Also surviving is a grandson, Keith (Michelle) Pfendler, whom they raised from infancy and an "adopted" daughter, Dawn (Joe) Zagurski. In addition are twelve grandchildren, Carrie (Joe) Dolan, Boonville, Tracy (Ryan) Salmon, Turin, Chad (Amanda) Hutchins, Constableville, Timothy Higby, Rome, Jessica (James) Woolwine, Port Leyden, Steven (Arica) Metott, Jr., Constableville, Dustin (Candy) Reese, Ava, Katherine (John ) Thoden, Port Leyden, Christopher (Brooke) and Andrew Higby, Boonville, Rylee and Raina Zagurski; twenty six great grandchildren and one more due in June; his siblings: Margaret Northrup, Carolyn Akin, Robert (Rita) Higby, John Higby, Mary Lou Randall; brothers in law, Eli (Bev) Schinder, William (Phyllis) Schindler; his sisters in law, Mary (Rick) Chase, Barb Schindler and Barb Higby; two aunts; Anne Hirschey and Anna (Everett) Burdick and many nieces and nephews. Myles was predeceased by his parents; in laws, Joe and Margaret Schindler; daughter and son in law, Lisa and Jerry Pfendler; sister and brother in law, Anna and Leslie Ottman; brothers, Carl, Ray and Leroy and Charles Higby, a sister who died in infancy, a sister in law, Janet Higby; brothers in law, Wayne Schinder and Francis Northrup and a niece, Julie Schinlder. His Funeral will be on Tuesday, at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment later this spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville.
