West Leyden- Mildred M. Fey, 84, widow of Leslie L., passed away after a brief illness on July 27, 2023.
Affectionately known as Mitzi, she was born in Oneida, on May 22, 1939, a daughter of Dayton G. and Catherine Cronin Mumford. She graduated from Rome Free Academy, with the Class of 1957.
After graduation, Mitzi was employed in the accounting department at Pettibone Corporation and later at Rome Cable. Her long term employment began in 1971, with New York Telephone, continuing her employment for thirty-one years, retiring in 2004 from NYNEX, after serving for many years as a customer service representative.
For many years, Mrs. Fey was also employed as bookkeeper for Fey Manufacturing Company, a family furniture manufacturing business founded in West Leyden, 1906, by her late husband’s family. Over a period of many years, Mitzi was also a caregiver for many family members and close friends.
On January 28, 1961, Mitzi was united in marriage with Leslie L. Fey, in Rome, NY. This was a blessed union of 59 years, until Mr. Fey passed away on January 24, 2020.
Mitzi loved spending time with her husband, family and close friends. She enjoyed hosting and attending family events throughout the years. She always considered her family first in all endeavors. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, kindness and unwavering support. Mitzi was also very close and appreciative of her church family at the West Leyden Reformed Church, where she served as treasurer for many years and was an active church member.
Mitzi is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Laurie and Norbert Hardt, Lempster, NH, Shelly and Duane Gilmour, Sherrill, NY and Julie and Robert Kraeger, Constableville, NY and a daughter in law, Jacqueline Fey, of Nantucket, MA. She was predeceased by her son, Leslie L. Fey, II, on June 4, 2023. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Erich, Kevin and Steven Hardt; Anna, Julia and Alex Gilmour; Nicholas Kraeger, Ethan, Jillian, Gavin and Evelyn Fey; two sisters, Katherine Henry, Eaton, Nancy Swan, Oneida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Otilla Fey, West Leyden, brother in laws, Stanley Maciag, Eaton, NY and William Ford, Oriskany Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters; Bernice Maciag, Florence Ford and Joyce Maxwell, by a sister in law, Betty Fey Campbell and an aunt and uncle she was very close to, Elwin and Mildred Eychner.
Her Funeral will be on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., where Pastor David Corcoran, of the West Leyden Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will be in West Leyden Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, August 10, from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Leyden Reformed Church, C/O 4546 Mud Lake Road, West Leyden, NY 13489.
