~~Boonville- Mitchell J. Cornish, 58, of Boonville NY, passed away April 21st surrounded by his loving family after a long hard battle with cancer. Mitch was born April 3, 1959 to James Cornish of Hammond, NY and Shirley Cornish of Old Forge, NY. He is predeceased by Gram Eunice and Gramp Willis Cornish of Rome, NY. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Mary Lou Cornish, his beloved son Devon (Whitney) Cornish, by his parents Jim (Dawn) Cornish, and Shirley Cornish, step-children Martin (Kate), Stephen (Lindsey), and Katie (Corey) Smallidge, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews which he dearly loved. Mitch was proud to be an American. He served in the U.S. Army as a dog handler and continued to serve his country by being actively involved in the communities he lived in. He was First Vice Commander of Charles J. Love American Legion Post # 406, of Boonville. He enjoyed fishing in the 1000 Islands and hunting in Naples, NY with his son and father. Mitch was a dog lover from a very early age. He was acting president of the Finger Lakes Retriever club, a dog handler and judge. He will be greatly missed by his bullmastiff Danica The Beast. Mitch was a hard working, dedicated employee. He retired in 2014 from Federal Express were he worked as an operations manager. He was in the real estate business for many years in the Naples, NY and began building his business in the Boonville area before he became ill. Calling hours are Friday, April 28, 2017, from 4-7 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a Military Memorial Service will follow at 7 p.m. with rites rendered by members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and The Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville. A private Mass will be held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Cape Vincent, NY, on Saturday, April 29, 22017. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
