Mildred M. Norton

Constableville- Mildred M. (Myers) Norton, long time resident of West Road, widow of Curtis J., passed away on Monday, February 3, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville. She was born in the Town of Leyden, April 23, 1917, a daughter of Albert A. and Della Dupont Myers. She grew in the Town of Leyden and graduated from Constableville High School, with the Class of 1934, after that attending and graduating from Excelsior School of Business, Utica. Later she was employed by Eric Palmros at Black River Investment Co., and at Wood Trubee & Co. of Rome. On November 14, 1936, Mildred was united in marriage with Curtis J. Norton, at St. Martin's Rectory, Port Leyden. In 1938 the couple purchased the former Schwenk Farm near Constableville. In 1943, the Norton's purchased her parents farm on the West Rd. which they operated until 1959, when they retired and built their present home. Mr. Norton, a retired dairy farmer and school bus driver at South Lewis Central School, died on March 8, 1996. Mrs. Norton was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen, Constableville, her grandchildren: John P. Norton (Kim Saunders), Anchorage, AK., Patricia Norton, Christopher M. Norton, Michael C. Norton, Utica, Andrew J. Knollman (Kim Doner), Glens Falls, Laura M. Knollman, Fort Laramie, WY, Matthew C. (Jessie) Fitzgerald, Valrico, FL, and Mark Fitzgerald, Constableville, great-grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Knollman, Jamie Snyder, Jill, Shea and Matilyn Fitzgerald, and Sarah Fitzgerald, her nieces Rita Treen and Carolyn Goodhines, both of Frankfort, special friends, Tim (Susan) Laroy, and Delores Post, all of Constableville. Besides her husband, Mildred was predeceased by her son John A. Norton on September 4, 1992 and a son in law, Patrick Fitzgerald, on May 30, 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services this spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville. There are no calling hours. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville. Memorial donations may be made to the Constableville Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box # 438, Constableville, New York 13325, or to the Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Resident Activities Fund, 7785 North State Street, Lowville, New York 13367.
