Port Leyden - Mildred I. "Millie" White, 91, formerly of McDonald Road, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabiltation Center where she had resided since May 2004. She was born in Brookfield, NY (Madison County) on July 7, 1918, a daughter of Floyd E. and Blanche Mae (Rocker) Brinkerhoff. She grew up in Bookfield and attended local schools. While in high school she was an avid basketball player. In Brookfield on October 24, 1936, Mildred was united in marriage with Robert C. White of Port Leyden. The couple settled in Port Leyden, where they raised their family. For several years Millie was employed as a housekeeper in the Port Leyden area. Later she and her husband owned and operated White's Fuel Service in Port Leyden before retiring in 1977. Mr. White died on October 22, 1985. Mrs. White and her husband were active members of the Lyons Falls Bible Fellowship Church. She was a person who was loving, compassionate, dedicated, and ready to help anyone. In addition to her church activities, she greatly loved her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and her entire extended family. She found enjoyment in sports, music, quilting, and crafts. Millie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Carol White of Lakeland, FL and Port Leyden; four daughters and their husbands, Shirley and James Gerrard of Lake Placid, FL and Poland, NY, Charlotte and Gus Bourgeois of Boonville, Debbie and Fred Snyder of Port Leyden, NY and New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Mary Lou and Daniel Straw of Lakeland, FL; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willis W. Brinkerhoff of Chadwicks. She was predeceased by two sons, Charles Robert White in 1976, and Gerald L. White in 2000, and four brothers, Louis A., Forest W., Eri, and Leonard Brinkerhoff. Her family extends a note of heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave to their mother and the entire family while she resided at Sunset. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Lyons Falls Bible Fellowship Church, SR 12, Lyons Falls. Spring interment will be in Port Leyden Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-7 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
