Michael W. McDermott, 87, of Bardwell Mill Road, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Utica, a son of Christopher and Lenore Welch McDermott. Michael served his country in the South Pacific Theater during World War II as a U.S. Marine, 1942 to 1947, and received several medals for his distinguished service. In 1948 he was employed by Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) as an electrical lineman before returning to New York State in 1953 with his wife and children. In September 1953 he began his employment with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, retiring in 1983. Michael was a member of the Tun Tavern Leathernecks Marine Corps League Det. 961, Boonville, a 55 year member of IBEW Local 310, Utica, VFW Post 982, Remsen, and Knights of Columbus Council 2195, Boonville. He was active in parish activities at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Catholic Church, Forestport. Surviving are his wife, Marion, and two sons: Michael B. McDermott, Sedalia, MO, and Timothy W. McDermott and wife Gerry, Grant, FL; one daughter: Mary E. Jenny and husband James, Remsen; five grandchildren: Tara Orman and husband Eric, and their children, Ella Marie and Rylan Orman, WA; Jessica Nelson and husband Rob, Westmoreland, Timothy Jenny and wife Colleen, Michael Jenny and Colleen E. Jenny, all of Remsen; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons Christopher and Kevin McDermott, and by a sister Mary Weber. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am Friday at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Church, Forestport, where Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen, Pastor, will officiate. There are no calling hours, however his family will receive relatives and friends at the conclusion of the Mass at the church. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Siegenthaler Center, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, or to St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Church, P.O. Box 1, Forestport, NY 13338. Arrangements are in the care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
