Michael V. Honey

February 22, 1946 — March 4, 2013

Boonville- Michael V. Honey, Sr., 67, husband of Maggie, of Potato Hill Road, passed away suddenly on March 4, 2013. Born on February 22, 1946, a son of VanRoe and Mary Kalamas Honey, Michael grew up in the Lowville area. After completing his education he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps, serving his country from December of 1968 to June of 1970, during the Vietnam Conflict Era. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to the Lowville area where he met Elaine Byer. The couple married in 1971. Mrs. Honey died in 2003. Following his return home, Mike worked for local farms, before eventually opening Mike's Small Engine Repair, on the Number Four Road in Watson. Mike also worked for Kafline's Auto in Lowville until the late 90's. In 2004 Mike married Alice "Maggie" Murphy in Lyons Falls. The couple eventually made their home on the Potato Hill Road. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed his passions of both hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Charles J. Love Post #406 American Legion, Boonville, the Harland J. Hennessey Post #5538 VFW, Boonville, and a proud 20+ year member of the NRA. Besides his wife Maggie, Mike is survived by his son Michael V. Honey, Jr., Lowville, three step-sons, Kenneth Brazee, Pine Plains, Scott (Bonnie) Brazee, Dover Plains, and Larry (Layla) Brazee, Honolulu, HI. Also surviving are his brothers: Joseph, Boonville, John (Heidi), Lowville, and Eugene (Christina), of Fine; Sisters: Anna Moser, and Brenda Meyers, both of Lowville, Barbara Honey-Clair (Wes), Glenfield, Bonnie Podkowka, Old Forge, Mary (Bob) Young of FL, Theresa (Donald) Dragon, Constableville; one sister-in-law, Joyce Honey, Erie, PA, many nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his brother Bobby. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 4:00 pm, at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with Rev. Sean P. O'Brien officiating, followed by military honors rendered by members of the Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps Leather Neck Detachment all of Boonville. Calling hours will be from 2:00 until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homeless Veterans Program, C/O Harland J. Hennessey Post #5538 V.F.W., 108 Park Ave. Boonville, New York 13309.
