Boonville- Michael J. Muha, 81 a longtime resident of Muha Road, in the Town of Leyden, retired dairy farmer, husband of the late Janis, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the home of his granddaughter, Shannon Bailey, on the Golden Road. Mike was under the loving care of his family, and Lewis Co. Hospice at the time of his death. He was born at the Muha family homestead farm, Town of Leyden, on March 31, 1929, a son of Joseph, and Catherine Grigerek Muha, Sr. His life was spent in the Town of Leyden, he received his education at West Leyden Central School. He was employed as a tractor trailer driver. On December 13, 1951, Mr. Muha entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the United States. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1953, at Cherry Point, NC. On July 29, 1950, Michael was united in marriage with Janis B. Edick, at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. This was a blessed union that endured for over fifty five years. The couple operated the family dairy farm from the mid 1950's until retiring in the 1990's. Mrs. Muha died on November 25, 2005. Mr. Muha was a member of St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, and the Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post # 406, Boonville. His family extends a very special and heartfelt thanks to John and Shannon Bailey, for opening their home to Mike during his illness, to grandchildren, Tim and Shawn Hutchins, Boonville, and Michael Muha, Whitesboro, for the care they gave to their grandfather, to Fr. Marullo, and last but not least Lewis Co. Hospice Care. His greatest joy in life was his love for his family. Mike is survived by two sons and daughters in law: Thomas P. Muha and Liza, Indiana, David C. Muha and Florence, Boonville; one daughter and son in law, Cathy A. and Gary Podkowka, Boonville, twelve grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, two brothers and sisters in law; John and Phyllis, Constableville, Joseph and Jane, Boonville; two sisters, Mary Bauer, Boonville, and Dorothy Samson, New Hartford. He was predeceased by brothers, Paul, William, Louis, and by a sister, Katherine, who died as an infant. His funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. and at11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's church, West Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. A spring interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
