Turin- Michael G. Foley, 66, of a long time resident of West Main St., passed away unexpectedly at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Michael was born in Gouverneur, NY, on January 9, 1955, a son of Phillip and Joyce Thomas Foley. At an early age he moved to Lyons Falls, where he grew up and attended Lyons Falls Central School, before graduating from South Lewis Senior High School, with the Class of 1973. Thereafter from July, 1974, until his honorable discharge on July 7, 1976, Mr. Foley served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany, during the Vietnam War era. On June 13, 1987, Michael was married to Denise M. Brown, at St. John's Church, Lyons Falls and thereafter the couple resided on West Main St., Turin. After serving his country, Michael began his long employment at Georgia Pacific Paper Company, Lyons Falls. For many years he was a laboratory technician, before transferring into the finishing mill at the time when the newer company, Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper closed. Mr. Foley was a talented carpenter; after his paper company career, he was employed in log home construction for Creekside Builders of Boonville. For a time, he also was active as a general carpenter in the Turin area and for several years was a grounds keeper for Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. While attending South Lewis High School, Michael excelled at playing football and baseball for the South Lewis Falcons. Later he greatly enjoyed coaching little league and farm baseball teams, for his children, in Turin. He was an avid NY Yankee Baseball fan and a fan of the Buffalo Bills Football team. In later years Michael's favorite sport was golf; he treasured golf games at the Brantingham Golf Club, where he often enjoyed a game with his children, grandchildren and family. In addition to his wife, Denise, Michael is survived by his son Cody R. Foley and his companion, Rachel Williamson, Turin; his daughter, Nicole "Niki" Kirk, Savannah, GA; his grandchildren, Brayden Myers and Dexter Sprowell; two brothers, Patrick Foley, Binghamton, Shawn Foley and companion, Erin Moxley, Lyons Falls. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Phillip and Joyce Foley and many aunts and uncles. A graveside service will be on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 11:00 A.M., at Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls, where members of Charles J. Love Post 406 American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and the Tun Tavern Leatherneck Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will confer Military Rites. There are no calling hours. Following the services, all are invited to attend a Celebration of his Life, at Three Willows Banquet Facility, located on Rt. 12, Lyons Falls, directly in back of The Boondocks's Restaurant. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Hospice Grief Program, or to Home Health of Lewis County, both C/O Lewis County General Hospital, 7785 North State St. Lowville, NY 13367.
