Michael A. Szewczyk

Michael A. Szewczyk, 79, of Marmon Road, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at Lewis Co. Extended Care Facility, Lowville, where he had been a resident since July 27, 2006. He was born in Utica, on April 29, 1927, a son of Michael and Stella Bandych Szewczyk. He grew up in Utica, moving to Alder Creek with his family in 1934. He attended school in Remsen, and on December 22, 1945, Michael entered the U.S. Army, serving in the U.S. and in the Phillipines. He was honorably discharged in May of 1947. On October 27, 1945, he was married to Almeta R. Mooney at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Rectory in Boonville. In 1949, the couple constructed their present home on Marmon Road, Town of Lyonsdale. Mr. Szewczyk was first employed at General Cable or Rome, then for Moyer & Pratt Paper Co., of Lyonsdale, and after that he worked for Lenart Construction Co. of Alder Creek, as a heavy equipment operator. For many years after that, he was employed as an independent truckdriver for Barrett Paving Co. of Boonville, retiring in 1995. Mr. Szewczyk was a member of St. Martinï¿(TM)s Church. Port Leyden, and was a life member of Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. of Boonville. Mr. Szewczyk had served as a Coucilman for the Town of Lyonsdale for four years. In addition to his wife, Almeta, he is survived by one son, James M. Szewczyk, at home. A daughter, Carol Irene, died as an infant. He is also survived by one sister, Frances Lenart, Alder Creek, and by an aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward R. Szewczyk in 1999. His funeral will be Friday at 10:15 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martinï¿(TM)s Church, Port Leyden, interment with Military Honors from Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Charles J. Love Post American Legion, and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home, with a Christian Wake Service at 3:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
