Glenfield - Maynard A. Peebles, 91, of Erie Canal Road, a native and lifelong resident of Lewis County, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville. He was born on November 30, 1918, a son of Anson and Alice (Leffingwell) Peebles, and grew up in the vicinity of Turin and Lyons Falls, attending a country school before completing his education at Lyons Falls High School. On Valentineï¿(TM)s Day, 1939, Maynard was united in marriage with Ruth Gould. The couple made their home on Whiskey Lane Road near Turin, where Mr. Peebles operated a dairy farm for several years. They also operated a gas station, small lunch and candy counter at Potters Corners, known as the "Do Drop In". After his retirement from dairy farming, Maynard was employed at the Remsen Milk Plant and operated a bulk milk trucking route before operating a contract mail delivery route between post offices in Lewis County. Mrs. Peebles died on April 14, 1996. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and gardening. They were especially fond of their pet poodles and animals. Mr. Peebles is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan P. and Eddie Crowell of Castle Hayne, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael M. and Maryhelen Peebles of Canton; four grandchildren, Tammy Rogers and her husband, Tommy of Wilmington, NC, Jeff and his wife Maria Peebles of Lowville, Wendy Boettcher and her husband Andy, and Debbie Mace and her husband, Brian all of Dayton, OH; nine great-grandchildren; a brother Cleon (Jack) Peebles of Anaheim, CA; and a nephew and his wife, Thomas and Ruth Spina of Chases Lake. His family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Linda Pawloski and her family for their special care and love for Maynard. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where the Revï¿(TM)d Lawrence Marullo, pastor of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville will officiate. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Monday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
