Maurice F. Baxter

Maurice F. "Chick" Baxter, Jr. 68, of West Main St., passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 30, 2007, while under the loving care of his family and Lewis Co. Hospice. Chick was born in Lowville, on January 20, 1939, a son of Maurice F. and Elizabeth Irene Casey Baxter, Sr. He grew up in Turin where he attended school, and then completed his high school education by graduating from General Martin High School of Glenfield, with the Class of 1958. After that he was employed at Snow Ridge Ski Area in Turin in maintenance and as a lift operator, and he was also employed for the Town of Turin as a heavy equipment operator. In December, 1961, Mr. Baxter entered the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany. In 1963, he entered the army reserves, and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1967. For thirty two years, he was employed as a planer and machinist at Ethan Allen Furniture Co. of Boonville, retiring in 2002. On July 16, 1966, Maurice was united in marriage with Shirley A. Leffingwell Emerson at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville. For a short time after that the couple lived in James St. Constableville, moving to his present home in Turin after that. Mrs. Baxter died on November 1, 2003. He greatly enjoyed spending time at this hunting camp in Greig, and NASCAR racing. He is survived by two daughters; Laurie A. Goodhines, and husband, Scott, Constableville, Lisa Baxter, Turin, two step sons and their wives; Gerald Emerson and Hakkyong, Bruce Emerson and Penny, both of Turin, ten grandchildren, two sisters and brothers in law; Maureen Duppert and James, Constableville, Nancy Jo Perry, and Warren, Barneveld, one brother and sister in law; Wayne and Kathy Baxter, Glenfield, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a step son, Thomas Emerson in 2004, and by three brothers; Richard, Henry, James, and by one sister, Mary Crofoot Salsburg. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, July 5, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Maryï¿(TM)s church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in St. Maryï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Constableville. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis Co. Hospice, or to Turin Fire Company Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
