Port Leyden-Mary S. Gozalowski, 89, of State Rt. 12, widow of Joseph J. Gozalkowski, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, April 05, 2006, while under the care of her family and Lewis Co. Hospice. Mary was born in Martinsburg on August 15, 1916, a daughter of John and Caroline V. Borkowski. She grew up in the Town of Martinsburg on the Borkowski Road, attending a rural school. On September 25, 1937, she was united in marriage with Joseph J. Gozalkowski at St. Hedwigï¿(TM)s Church in Houseville. After that the couple operated a dairy farm on Gardner Road in the Town of Martinsburg. In 1949, the couple purchased a dairy farm on the Golden Road between Boonville and West Leyden, operating this farm until 1970, when they retired and moved to their present home on Rt. 12 near Port Leyden. Mr. Gozalkowski died on November 1, 1974. For 15 years after they sold their farm, Mary was employed at Lally Mfg. Co. of Port Leyden. For thirty five years Mary was a member of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church of West Leyden, later she became a communicant of St. Martinï¿(TM)s Church of Port Leyden. Mary is survived by two sons and daughters in law; Carl A. and Lila Gozalkowski, Port Leyden, Leo F. and Frances Gozalkowski, Black River, eight grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, eight great and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant son, two grandchildren; Carl Jr., and Mark, two brothers; Walter, Joseph, and by a sister, Lottie Borkowski. A Prayer Service will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martinï¿(TM)s Church, Port Leyden, where Rev. MSGR Paul E. Whitmore, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 7-9 P.M. and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home, where a Rosary Service will be held at 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis Co.
