Rome- Mary (Braun) MacLachlan, 88, a former resident of Elmer Hill Road, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since May, 2011. She was born in Camden on June 29, 1923, the youngest daughter of Andrew and Mabel Baxter Braun. As a child, her family moved to Rome where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Rome Free Academy with the class of 1941. After graduation she worked as a nurse's aid at Rome Hospital. On September 20, 1943, Mary was united in marriage with James E. "Red" MacLachlan, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Mr. MacLachlan, a branch manager at Abalene Pest Control, died in June 1999. Mrs. MacLachlan and her husband were among the founders of Faith Lutheran Church (Delta Lake). She continued to be an active participant in church affairs until entering the Clinton Lutheran Adult Home in 2008. Mary enjoyed music, traveling, sewing, and reading. In school, she excelled in science and was a recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. Being an avid gardener, Mary created and tended to many beautiful flower gardens surrounding her home at Lake Delta. Her home was a remodeled 200 year old schoolhouse which reflected her interests in history and architecture. She is survived by two daughters; Fern (William) Babcock, Dayton, OH, and Beth Lawton, Tully, NY, two sons; David (Bonny) MacLachlan, Virginia Beach, and Dean (Diana) MacLachlan, Boonville. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail, who died an infant. Also surviving are six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Nunn & Harper Funeral home, Inc., 418 North George St. Rome, January 28, 2012, from 1 pm to 3 pm, with services to immediately follow. Interment will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Lee.
