Canandaigua, NY --- Mary Lou Williams, formerly of Remsen, NY, passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2017 at the age of 89 at F.F. Thompson Hospital. Mary Lou was born May 5, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late Dr. Ralph E. & Mary Louise Montonna. She is a graduate of Murray High in St. Paul, MN, earned her BA from Syracuse University, and graduate studies at Mills College, Oakland, CA. In 1951 she married Dale P. Williams, and after his service in the U.S. Air Force, settled in his hometown of Remsen, NY. Mary Lou was very active in the community, especially the First United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and administrator, active in the local and district United Methodist Women groups, served on the Conference Board of Northern NY United Methodist Church, and performed 2 terms on the General Board of Finance and Administration of the National United Methodist Church. In addition, she was a served on the Foothills Girl Scout Council, member of the Fortnightly Club of Remsen, Western College Group, former Board President of Didymus Thomas Library, member of the Tequesta Country Club and Glass Hill Golf League, and volunteered for the Jupiter Medical Center and American Red Cross. Mary Lou is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Emmons; children Philip (Marcia), Mitchell (Kelly), and Suzanne (Craig); and five grandchildren Elizabeth Williams Goodwin (Mathew), Sarah Williams Jimenez (Saul), Brian Williams (Erin), Gwendolyn Vary, and Hannah Vary. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, Dale P. Williams. All who can are invited to join the family and friends as they will have a receiving line at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 9652 Main St., Remsen, NY on Jan. 13, 2018.
