Port Leyden - Mary Jane Farr, 78, of East Main Street passed away on Monday, March 29, 2010 at Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since 2008. Mrs. Farr was born in Clayton on February 18, 1932, a daughter of Pitt Clinton and Ethel (Johnson) Smith. At the age of ten, Mary moved with her family to Thendara. She graduated from Town of Webb High School in Old Forge with the Class of 1950 and was employed as a telephone operator for General Telephone Company, Old Forge. Mary Jane was married to Floyd E. Farr on September 17, 1956, in Elkton, MD. The couple moved to Lyonsdale, where they settled and raised their family. During that time Mary Jane obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate, and was employed by Benders Nursing Home for several years. Mary is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Mary Farr of Port Leyden; four daughters, Lori Durham and her husband, Mark, of Port Leyden, Sharon Pfeiffer and her husband, George, of Lyonsdale, Becky Carpenter and her husband, Bryant of Port Leyden, and Julie Ann Dafoe and her husband, Charles of Lyonsdale; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary in 1960, her husband, Floyd in 1993, three brothers, Rufus, Alfred and Carl, and by a sister, Dora. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, April 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Penny Settlement Cemetery, Town of Lyonsdale. Memorial contributions may be made to Port Leyden Fire Company Ambulance Fund. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
