Mary Eleanor Reed, 85, formerly of Mapledale Road, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at the Masonic Care Facility of Utica, where she had resided since 2003. Mary was born in Utica, on November 16, 1920, a daughter of Dr. L. Francis and Kathleen Mahaffy Reed. She grew up in Remsen, graduating from Remsen Central School, and then from Knox College of Cooperstown. After completion of her college education, she was employed for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. After that she returned to Barneveld, where she lived for many years, and during that time was employed as a secretary at the Saving Bank of Utica for several years. She moved to her home on Mapledale Road in 1973. She was a former member of the Remsen Baptist Church, a member of the Adirondack Garden Club of Kayuta Lake, a 60 year member of Mappa-Salma Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Boonville, and a trustee of Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen. Mary is survived by cousins; Robert and his wife, Joan Liddle, Old Forge, Fred and his wife, Helen Liddle, Orlando, Fla., and Jeanne Osepchook, and her husband, Phil, Orlando, Fl. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday September 15, at 2:30 P.M. at Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen, where Rev. Susan Loper will officiate. In keeping with her wishes there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St. Utica, N.Y. 13501.
