Constableville- Mary E. Smith, a longtime resident of Schuyler St. Constableville, widow of Francis Joe Smith, passed away while surrounded by the loving care of her family, on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since November, 2013. Mary was born on December 17, 1924, at the Wynne Homestead Farm on the Wynn Road, near Constableville, a daughter of Richard W. and Winifred E. Mullaney Wynne. She grew up on her family farm and graduated from Constableville High School, Class of 1942, thereafter she furthered her education attending The Utica School of Commerce. On January 11, 1947, Mary was united in marriage with Francis Joe Smith, at St. Marys Church, Constableville. In 1946, Joe founded a milk route trucking business; after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Smith continued and expanded their business, later known as F.J. Smith & Sons, Inc. of Constableville. Mary was a driving force in the operation and contributed greatly to the success of the business. Mr. Smith passed away on April 1, 1996. For many years Mrs. Smith was a dispatcher for the Constableville Vol. Fire Department. She took the calls in her home and sounded the alarm in emergencies and called ambulance drivers before there was a 911 call center. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Marys Church, Constableville. Mary greatly enjoyed caring for her family and spending time with friends. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling. Mary is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kelly, Troy, NY, Susan Smith Billhardt (Brad), two sons, Roger A. (Bonnie) Smith, and Randy E. Smith, all of Constableville; grandchildren, Erin (Aaron) Swift, Hood River, OR, Tara Kelly, Minneapolis, MN, Kathy (John) Leis, Bronxville, NY, Michael Kelly, Troy, Chris (Deanna) Remillard, Colorado, Springs, CO, Andy (Lindsey) Remillard, Fairport, NY, Kim (Bill) Armstrong, Jason (Michelle) Smith, Ethan and Natalee Billhardt, all of Constableville; six great grandchildren, Connor Ernst, Grace Smith, Wynter Swift, Nathanial, Daniel and Matthew Remillard, and a brother in law, Merwin McDonald, Lyons Falls and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Smith, a daughter and son in law; Shirley and Bruce Remillard, by a son in law, David Kelly and by a sister, Ruthanne McDonald. Her family wishes to extend a sincere note of gratitude to the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care which they rendered to Mary. Her Funeral will be Tuesday, April 3, at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 11:00 A.M. at St. Marys Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be later this spring in St. Patricks Cemetery, Constableville.
