Boonville- Mary A. Thayer, 90, formerly of East Schuyler St. and more recently of Kortenaer Village, Boonville and widow of Willard L. "Curly" Thayer, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, while surrounded by the loving care of her children. Mary was born in Constableville, on July 15, 1930, a daughter of William E. and Agnes Hoffert Sullivan. She grew up in the village of Constableville, receiving her education at Constableville Central School. On November 22, 1952, Mary was united in marriage with Willard L. "Curly" Thayer, at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. Their marriage was a loving union which lasted for almost 59 years, until Mr. Thayer, a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict Era and retiree of Ethan Allen Furniture Co. Boonville, passed away on July 8, 2011. In 1963, the couple moved to their home on East Schuyler St. where they lived until 2008, when they relocated to Kortenaer Village. For a time Mary was employed as a caregiver at the Webber Adult Home, Port Leyden. Mary's true love and vocation in her life was being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, whose smile, kind and generous heart and ways illuminated the lives of all people Mary encountered. Mary was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville and was a devout Catholic, who treasured every opportunity to attend Mass and Holy Day observances. She was also a member of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Up and Go Senior Citizens and Young at Heart Senior Citizens. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, Pitch games and she was an avid New York Yankees Baseball Fan. Mary was a talented baker who found great pleasure in sharing her cookies and baked goods with her family and friends. Mary is survived by seven daughters and sons-in law; Debbie (Dennis) Crofoot, Boonville, Teresa (Wayne) Lampman, Boonville, Rosanne (David) Butts, Port Leyden, Kim (Mark) Hunt, Taberg, Tammy (Scott) Sperry, North Lake, Robin (Stephen) Butts, Boonville, Jill (Chris) Murphy, Edgewater, Fla; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Timmy (Sharon) Thayer, Port Leyden and Rodney Thayer, Boonville; thirty grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and by one brother, Ervin Sullivan, Boonville and a sister in law, Irma Sullivan, Port Leyden. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Edward, Patrick, Loren and Percy Sullivan and by a grandson, Toby Thayer. Mary's family wishes to express a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and care givers at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville for the kind and loving care which was afforded to Mary. Calling hours are Tuesday from 3-7 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where face coverings, social distancing and contact tracing are required. Due to health concerns, her Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Matthew Rawson, pastor will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, May 7, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
