Mary A. Sasenbury

February 19, 1930 — November 24, 2022

Boonville – Mary A. Sasenbury, 92, longtime resident of East Ava Road, widow of Newton, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since 2017.


Mary was born in the Town of Vienna on February 19, 1930, a daughter of Ruben and Eva Deeley Dibble. She received her education in Vienna where she spent her younger years. On August 8, 1947 she was united in marriage with Newton Sasenbury at the Methodist Parsonage in Stockbridge, NY. Shortly thereafter the couple settled on the Sasenbury homestead farm on East Ava Road, where they operated the farm together for many years. Mr. Sasenbury a retiree of Revere Copper & Brass, Rome, passed away on February 1, 1997.


Sewing was a life’s passion for Mary. For several years she was employed at Adirondack Textile, Boonville as a sewing machine operator. She also was a talented quilter, attending many craft shows displaying and selling her works of art. Mary was of the Methodist faith and was also a member of the Constableville Senior Citizens group.


She is survived by her children: daughters; Betty (Joseph) Bruggeman, Rose (George) Stevens, Sue Scott; sons, Charles, Bill (Rose), Ed (Tabitha). She was predeceased by a son, Raymond, on October 12, 1962, a grandson, Alan Stevens, on July 8, 2000; a son in law, Jeff Scott; two sisters, Florence Ambrose, Evelyn Waite and by three brothers, Orville (Ike) Dibble, Larry Dibble and Lynn (Dutch) Dibble. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren and her siblings; sister, Alice Havener and Delma Felker; one brother, Charles Dibble and a sister in law, Patricia Brown.


Visitation hours are Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 1-3 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a funeral service to immediately follow at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ava Cemetery, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ava Hilltop Methodist Church, or to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.


Mary’s family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care which they extended to Mary.
