West Leyden ï¿" Mary A. Berwick, 91, of State Route 26, widow of Frank A. Berwick, passed away Friday, March 17, 2006, at Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She had resided at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, since December 1999. Mary was born August 12, 1914 in West Homestead, PA, a daughter of Joseph and Bronislawa Kwiatkowski Sosnowski. As a child, she moved with her family to Potato Hill Road near Boonville, where she grew up and attended rural school. On November 3, 1934 she was united in marriage with Frank A. Berwick at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church, Boonville. Following their marriage the couple moved to West Leyden where she had lived until entering Sunset. Mr. Berwick died March 3, 1973. Mrs. Berwick was a member of St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church, Boonville, and greatly enjoyed caring for her home and was especially noted for the beautiful flower gardens that she raised and took care of. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Walter J. and Carol Berwick of West Branch; one daughter and son-in-law: Mariejane and Bradley Converse of West Leyden; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Stella Paladino of Boonville; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son: Frank W. Berwick in August 1981; a grandson: Ricky J. Berwick in September 1978; a daughter-in-law: Kathryn Berwick in July 1997; two brothers: Kenneth and Stanley Sosnowski; and a sister: Helen Piatkowski. A prayer service for Mrs. Berwick will be at 11:15 am Tuesday at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm (Noon) at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church, Charles St., Boonville, with Rev. Donald H. Karlen, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in the spring in St. Josephï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church Memorial Fund, Charles St., or to Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Resident Activities Fund, 232 Academy St., Boonville 13309. The Berwick family extends their deep appreciation to the staff at Sunset, Dr. Potluri and the ICU nursing staff at Rome Memorial Hospital for all of their special care.
