Westernville- Marshall P. Merritt, 79, of Stokes Westernville Road, husband of the late Elsie, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side, on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Westmoreland on November 25, 1934, a son of Melvin and Velma Nash Merritt. Marshall grew up in Westmoreland, where he attended school; later living in Remsen. On May 25, 1957, Marshall was united in marriage with Elsie E. Yuhasz, at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport. Afterwards the couple resided on Potato Hill Road, near Boonville, before moving to Westernville, in 1967. For more than 17 years Mr. Merritt was employed on the assembly line at the Pettibone Co. of Rome, and after he retired, he was employed on the maintenance crew at Camp Kiwanis of Taberg. Mr. Merritt was a member of Skyline Baptist Church of Floyd. He is survived by Monica (James) Day, New Lisbon, WI, Trena Merritt and Tracy Merritt, Westernville. He was predeceased by a daughter, Corinne Ann Merritt on August 26, 1966, and by his wife, Elsie, on June 22, 1993. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren; two brothers, Deryl, Taberg and Walter, Remsen, two sisters, Sandra (Henry) Kirk, Lockport, and Eileen Smith, Rome. He was predeceased by two brothers; Carlton, and Keith. In keeping with his wishes interment will be held privately in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. A memorial service will be held at a future date. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
