Marjorie Hurlbut Backer, 82, a live long resident of Ava, widow of Willard N. Backer, passed away in Ava, on Friday, December 15, 2006. Marjorie was born on the Hurlbut family farm on the West Ava Road on November 25, 1924, the daughter of Burton and Satie Barringer Hurlbut. She graduated from West Leyden High School with the Class of 1942. After that she was employed at A&P Grocery Store of Rome, and in the office at Revere Copper and Brass. On June 26, 1948, Marjorie was united in marriage with Willard N. Backer, and for forty five years the couple operated the Willard Backer Saw Mill and Lumber Co. of Ava. Mr. Backer died on April 15, 1993. Mrs. Backer was a lifetime member of the Ava Hill Top United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed making Maple syrup, and spending time outdoors. She had a great love for animals. She is survived by two sons; Larry L. Backer, and his children; Brian, and Scott, Mark Backer, and his wife, Anne, and their children, Reneï¿(TM), and Kyle, one sister; Myrtle Milles, Stokes. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters; Hollis, Wava Traxel, Clarence, Lloyd, and Alice Matthewson. Her Funeral will be Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Paul E. Credle, will officiate. Interment will be in Ava Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 6-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
