Boonville- Marilyn J. (Berliner) Daskiewich, 89, a longtime resident of Ford St. and widow of Henry J. “Hank” Daskiewich, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, where she was surrounded by the love of her family.
Marilyn was born in Jamaica, Queens, on May 24, 1935, a daughter of Francis J. and Grace N. Skidmore Berliner. She grew up in Manhasset, L.I., where she attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, before graduating from Manhasset High School, with the Class of 1953.
Marilyn always enjoyed fond memories of spending entire summers with her family at a camp at Highmarket. It was during those summers that she often visited Boonville and eventually, met the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Daskiewich. The couple were united in marriage, on October 25, 1958, at St. Mary’s Church, Manhasset, Long Island, NY. Thereafter the couple settled in Boonville, living on Ford St. for many years. Their marriage of nearly 63 years, was a mutual expression of love and day to day devotion to each other; Hank and Marilyn each kept every greeting card ever gifted to each other. Mr. Daskiewich passed away on July 5, 2021.
Mrs. Daskiewich will be fondly recalled for her twenty-five-year career as a Teacher’s Aid, at Adirondack Central Middle School, in Boonville. In 1964, Mr. Daskiewich and his mother, Mary, purchased the well known Hulbert House, Hotel, Restaurant and Bar, in downtown Boonville. From that time onward, for many years, in addition to her school career, Marilyn was employed as a Hostess and also in everyday activities in the operations of the Hulbert House, including planning the many parties, wedding receptions and holiday celebrations held at the popular establishment. And, inevitably, Marilyn found herself, along with Hank and their children and grandchildren, working on the “making the dinner rolls team” at the Hulbert House, a tradition which became a legend for the family.
Marilyn was a devout member of the Catholic faith and a longtime active member of St. Joseph’s church, Boonville, where she was a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Religious Education Teacher and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Women’s Club, participated in Faith Formation, serving on the R.I.C.A. Committee; she was a member of Church Women United and Abiding Love Prayer Group.
She possessed a lifelong interest in music, especially the realms of vocal music and Broadway musicals. She was a longtime member of The Adirondack Community Chorus and in earlier years she enjoyed participating in a 1970 community production of Little Abner, at the newly opened Adirondack High School, in Boonville. In addition, Marilyn was a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Boonville and a devoted volunteer for over 40 years at the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days. She also enjoyed reading, writing in her journals, painting and drawing, watching baseball with beloved Henry and his St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Team. In her youth, Marilyn’s favorite team was the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Marilyn greatly treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and their beloved canine friends, along with extended family and many dear friends.
She is survived by her children; son, Michael Daskiewich; daughters and son and law, Tracy Dickson and Eileen (Richard) Esch; and son, Francis Daskiewich. In addition to her husband, Hank, Marilyn was predeceased by a son, David, on September 1, 2018. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jacob Dickson, Dayna (Alex) Miller, Kathryn (Daniel) Santoro, Emily Dickson, Lauren Esch, Madison Esch and Connor Henry Daskiewich and a sister, Joan (Jerry) Gerardi, North Carolina and nieces and nephews which she adored.
Marilyn’s family wishes to express a special note of thanks to her Home Health Care Workers, Nurses and Doctors on the 3rd Floor I.C.U. East Wing, at Wynn Hospital and the nurses and staff on C-Wing, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.
