Steuben- Marie Louise Carpenter, 73 , of North Steuben Road, widow of L. Daniel Carpenter, passed away on October 12, 2014 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Brooklyn, on January 14, 1941, a daughter of Marie Gorres and Myron Senchyna. She grew up in Steuben and graduated from Remsen Central School with the Class of 1958. For 19 years Louise was employed as a rural mail carrier at Remsen Post Office. On July 18, 1959, Louise married her high school sweetheart, L. Daniel Carpenter at St. Ann's Church, Hinckley. Dan and Louise enjoyed over 52 years of dancing together until his passing on April 5, 2012. Louise is survived by her 5 children and their spouses; Fred Carpenter (Wanda), Tina Carpenter (Lori Clark), Brian Carpenter (Penny), Sonya Murray (Jack), and Julie Cooper (Chuck), seven grandchildren; Danielle Bamford, Brian and Kayla Carpenter, Morgan, Hailey and Griffin Murray and Xachary Carpenter, ten great grandchildren; one brother, John (Peanut) Senchyna, and one sister, Nan Senchyna. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Frederick Kiernan. She had a lifelong love of horses of all kinds, especially Arabians and Missouri Fox Trotters. She was a longtime member of Hay Riders Horse Club more recently she enjoyed kayaking with her family and a local group known as Women on Water (WOW). She was a member of the Remsen-Steuben Historical Society and greatly enjoyed participating in their annual historical plays. As a member of the Steuben Senior Group, she enjoyed traveling with the group. For 30 years, Louise served as the secretary-treasurer of Carmichael Hill Cemetery Association, as well as a member of the French Road Cemetery Association Board of Directors. Marie was a member of the Rome North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Visitation will be Friday 4-7 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a Memorial Service will follow at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Remsen-Steuben Historical Society, or to a charity of your choice.
