Marian Ellen Tillson

Town of Schuyler- Marian Ellen (Griffith) Tillson, 80, passed away while surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, after a long illness.


She was born in Woodgate, NY, on February 15, 1943, a daughter of Raymond A. and Ellen Mary Lane Griffith. As a child she moved with her family to the Kipp Road, Hawkinsville, where she grew up, receiving her education at Boonville Central School, graduating with the Class of 1960.


On November 19, 1976, Marian was married to Morton F. Tillson, in Utica, thereafter the couple settled in the Town of Schuyler. Mr. Tillson, a retired heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Tioga Construction Co., and other Utica area construction companies, passed away on July 4, 2018.


Marian’s focus and source of great joy in her life was found in her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She is survived by three children, Mary Engell, (Timothy), Herkimer, Cynthia Ross, Utica and Margaret Tillson, Schuyler. Marian was predeceased by three children, Tamara Sabourin, Holly Tillson and Morton Tillson. In addition to raising her children, Marian also actively raised four of her seven grandchildren; Raymond Sabourin, Amber Ross, Jeremy Sabourin, Margaret Sabourin. Also grandchildren; Ryan Engell, Jordan Washington and Donte Washington and multiple great grandchildren; her siblings, Carole Griffith Nunziata, Westmoreland, Raymond Griffith, Burton Griffith (Lindy) and Dale Griffith, all of Boonville and nieces, nephews and in-laws.


In keeping with her wishes, there are no services or visitation hours. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc.
