Alder Creek - Margaret M. Walters, 81, of Kernan Road, widow of Kenneth, Sr., passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, after a short illness. A native of Akron, Ohio, she was born on August 21, 1926, a daughter of John and Matilda Bowen. She grew up in Pennsylvania, and after her high school graduation she moved to New York City. While living in New York, Margaret was employed as a copy girl for the New York Times, later moving to Washington, D.C. where she was employed by the Washington Post, in the same capacity. After WWII, she moved to Clifton Springs, NY, where she was united in marriage with Kenneth J. Walters, Sr., on June 10, 1949. In 1954 her husband transferred to the Utica area with the Armour Meat Co., and from there the couple moved to Alder Creek in 1975. For several years Mrs. Walters was employed as a ward clerk at Faxton Hospital, Utica. Mr. Walters died on August 12, 1992. She greatly enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and often knit mittens for her grandchildren, and did other custom-made crocheting. Margaret is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth J. and Donna Douglass Walters, Jr., and Michael Scott and Della Walton Walters, all of Boonville; three grandchildren, Lynn, David, and Michelle Walters; and many other relatives and friends. Her Funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 6-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Forestport Fire Fighters.
